As I sit in Starbucks and sip my morning coffee, I make the same realization that I’ve made a thousand times in the last several years. America has to change and is changing all at the same time.
Our financial system is in distress and failing from years of abuse but the human spirit is alive and well in America. We are changing how we do business and if small, medium and large businesses don’t change as well, they will see diminished profits and troubles far into the future of this sweeping and mobile global economy.
What do I see? I business and businesses getting smaller and smaller - individualized. This means that our economy will only get more compartmentalized, specialized and individualized. Slowly, I think we may become a world of micro businesses run by individuals or small groups with vertically and technically specialized experience and knowledge, a more productive and sustainable method of conducting business.
How will it work? I’m not sure but it’s happening right now, as I write this story, in front of my very eyes. People are making subtle changes in the way they do business.
Why do I see this? Everytime I enter a business meeting or situation, I see more and more fantastic independent people creating there own business reality within traditional business institutions. Openly and out in the open. Not “closed” in an office but fluidly more cooperative, collaborative, creative. There out, on the open range of the new economy. I’m with them, want to be a part and want to participate. To resource and open up channels of communication about this subject of a “new way” of working, of non-interdependence on corporation but relationship building within companies. The new entrepreneur, a 21st model of independent efficiency and professional capability.
I’m not trending or train spotting, just making an observation over a long period of time and realizing that this trend keeps growing, picking up momentum. It’s the direction, we are subtly moving and growing very quickly.
